VFF: Block 1

This course is based on NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. The Certified Volunteer Fire Fighter Block courses prepare the student for the Volunteer Fire Fighter State Certification Examination. The course is highly structured to provide academic information through a series of lectures and demonstrations augmented with visual aids. Practical skills are developed with a specified degree of proficiency through selected manipulative evolutions. Specific subject topics covered in Volunteer Fire Fighter Block 1 include orientation and fire service, fire department communications, NIMS, fire behavior, fire fighter safety and health, personal protective equipment, SCBA, portable fire extinguishers, water supply, fire hose, and fire streams. This course is recommended for all volunteer fire fighters.

• 18 years of age
• Physical Statement (AFC & PSC Form 05)
• Emergency Care Provider or Proof of First Responder that meets or exceeds the Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical First Responder
