The Firemanship Essentials I course is designed to provide the student with basic information on fire service organization, the fireground environment, firefighter safety, the science of fire and fire behavior utilizing classroom lectures and discussions. Specific course topics surveyed and illustrated through demonstration and practical exercises include Orientation and Fire History; Firefighter Safety and Health; Fire Department Communications; Building Construction; Fire Behavior; Firefighter PPE; Portable Extinguishers; Rope, Webbing, and Knots; Search and Victim Removal and Fire Scene lighting and Rescue equipment. This course is recommended for all fire service personnel with little or no experience and those who wish to review and practice their basic skills. Note: This course utilizes the equipment resources provided by the host department/agency.
